　　阿历克斯（本·斯蒂勒 Ben Stiller饰）和南希（德鲁·巴里摩尔 Drew Barrymore饰）这对夫妻搬进了一桩双层公寓。这个公寓虽然是装修古旧了些，却是一个美妙的生活居所。唯一的糟糕事情是，公寓的二楼住着一个叫康奈利太太（艾玲·伊丝儿Eileen Essel 饰）。这个年近一百岁的老人，竟然给这对夫妻带来了灾难性的麻烦。
　　康奈利太太总是在不合时宜的时间干扰阿历克斯和南妮的生活：在阿历克斯专心写作的时候支使他帮忙处理繁杂的家务活，在夫妻生活正到酣甜处时在他们窗边露出一个可怕的身影，用强大的电视音量来干扰他们的睡眠。更为无可奈何的是，康奈利太太毁了这对夫妻的事业，阿历克斯的书稿被她毁于一旦，南希也因为她的不间断骚扰而丢掉饭碗。夫妻两人对这个可恶的康奈利太太已经忍无可忍，他们决定，用一个神不知鬼不觉的阴谋，狠狠处置把这个无法无天的老太太，还有她那只专做帮凶的鹦鹉……
